Warnings have been issued to the elderly and vulnerable about cold calls being made to sell insurance cover they don’t need. The callers advise the victim that their existing warranty has run out or try to sell them a new policy, made more confusing as some are masquerading as well known, legitimate insurers but are actually different firms. These callers use persuasive and pushy tactics to sell ‘cover’ for washing machines, TVs and other household appliances. One victim in Scotland who had dementia was sold a policy for a brand of appliance that she did not even own.
