There are new warnings to be vigilant about unexpected WhatsApp messages. The scam poses as a family member or friend and is also known as the ‘Mum and Dad’ or ‘Friend in Need’ fraud. The message comes from an unknown number because their phone is broken and asks for money urgently for an ‘emergency’ such as an unpaid bill. Messages sound personal and may be signed off with kisses or love heart emoji’s. Do not be pressured to respond to these messages and always speak in person to your loved one before sending money. If in doubt, delete.
