Warnings have been issued about a new National Insurance number scam where the victim is told that their ‘NI number’ has been compromised. The scam starts as an automated phone call message, if the instructions are followed and victims get ‘connected to the caller’ they will be pressured into handing over their personal details in order to get a new NI number. This is a scam and attempt to commit fraud and identity theft. The HMRC will never contact the public in this manner.
