Police in South Yorkshire have issued warnings about an HMRC phone scam which involves the victim being accused of tax fraud and told there is a warrant for their arrest as they haven’t responded to warning letters. A cloned number is being used which appears to be a genuine South Yorkshire Police telephone number. Victims are told that the HMRC are working with Amazon and ‘to make up for the fraud’ they can purchase £100 Amazon vouchers at the post office and send the voucher codes through to the caller. Vulnerable people are at risk of losing hundreds of pounds and police are asking for the public to be vigilant.
