Jobseekers are being warned to be vigilant online when applying for jobs. The pandemic has seen a surge in people looking for work and scammers taking advantage by advertising fake jobs and asking for payments for items like security checks, training and uniforms. There are also reports of scammers targeting victims using recruitment websites and apps. The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau has alerted the public to a ‘mystery shopping’ style request to take out a mobile phone contract in order to pass the job recruitment process. The victims are then stuck with a contract they don’t need, whilst others have found their personal details have been used by the fraudsters to take out loans.
