Recently there have scams involving copycat sites that charge consumers £40 to update the driving license address, a service that is free on gov.uk. Sites offering the service appear via paid Google ads, above the official website, and deny a scam by stating, in very small print, ‘free alternative’. With a prominent ‘apply now’ button sitting on a page entitled ‘DVLA Change of Address’, which may have a similar design to the official site, it is easy to entice consumers into paying an unnecessary fee.
If you need to update your licence remember it is free to do so – so if you’re on a site which charges, it’s the wrong one.
