Brexit Scams

With uncertainty about the UK leaving the EU, scammers are taking advantage of nervous consumers with a host of new scams. From unofficial websites offering European Health Insurance Cards (Ehic) to businesses being targeted to register for a ‘UK trader number’, the public are being warned to stay vigilant. There are also alerts to be on your guard about bogus investments opportunities and passport scams, with fraudsters posing as government officials to question validity over passports or investment changes due to ‘post-Brexit laws’. Official organisation such as the HMRC or HM Passport office will never ask for sensitive information or any kinds of payment by email, text or over the phone.
