The Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) are warning about a new scam called ‘ghost broking’ targeting new drivers on social media. The scam offers new drivers unrealistic cheap insurance deals, however the insurance is fake, offering no coverage in the event of an accident and risk of loss of licence if caught driving without valid insurance by police. The victim may be directed to pay upfront via WhatsApp for a non-existent policy and lose large sums of money. New drivers are being advised to only buy insurance through a recognised insurance provider and report any driver insurance scams to IFB’s cheatline on 0800 422 0421.
